[Edit] [Back] Delusions of Grandeur
Sitting alone in the dark, surrounded by bent weaves of inverted fire and air, just waiting for the trap to be sprung. Waiting for my visitor, a fellow Chosen... Chosen... Ah, what a sweet word. I finally became what I've longed to be for over thirty-five long years... Immortal to rule all that is below me. The voice that was once constantly nagging at me is now gone. Total control of saidin was mine. Though being a friend of the dark that could channel did have it's advantages, and greater disadvantages.
Weaving nets of all five powers over someone in the correct parts of the brain did get me what I wanted no matter who gave the order. Dreadlord I may have been, Chosen still outranked me, I learned that when the spider came after me. She is quite cruel when her perfectly laid plans are ruined by a simple act of self defense. I screamed and cried for what seemed like a lifetime, but in a status box, it is only a meer minutes. The pain was great but I had to endure, for I knew my time was apon me to repay those who caused harm to have it returned thrice full.
Today I was ready, for I have thousands of Trollocs freshly made for my personal army, and hundreds of Myydral to drive them. I doubt I'll ever get used to seeing them disappear and reappear a few meters away..
As my chin hit my chest a tingling sensation woke me, filling myself with the now sweet power of saidin, I waited for the silver box to allow Moghedien through. One leg up to the knee came through, then back out. I chuckled to myself as the thought of how Moghedien's knickname fit her perfectly, always the causcious spider... She is weaker than me in terms of the power, but she has lived a long life and knows a lot more than I do that is what it will come down to. She finally stepped through, and the gateway winked out behind her. Now, the time has come to snare the spider in a web of my own.
"Stop," I said, "and release the power." The tingling sensation left then came back as a flame appeared... Nothing to cause harm, just to create some light. Then it was gone.
"That, my dear sister. Almost cost you your life." I said. Smiling I lit several torches hanging on the walls. "There we go, nice and bright, does this make you feel less afraid?"
"I'm not afraid," she said with a smirk, "why should I be scared of you? You are nothing but a fly to me."
"Ha, you think that I would walk into your web? Think again the tables have turned my sister." I laughed for I knew that I had caught the spider. It was time for her to feel my wrath. "Had I not waited to tie off my weaves, you would most likely be a pile of ash at this moment."
A slight tightening of the eyes and licking of the lips was all the reaction from her. Though that would be tipical of someone who was just told they were seconds from death.
"I do not trust you, so you understand why I have taken precaucions." I said. "One thing you must understand about me is we are quite similar. I will not take chances, I also will not say things twice."
"You speak to me as if we were Aes Sedai, where power matters. You may be stronger, but I am older. I have been a Chosen before you were ever born. If you try to threaten me again I will punish you like when you were nothing but a Dreadlord." she said with a smile.
"I'm so happy you brought that up sister. I've been thinking, I think you should pay a pentance to me for the pain you caused, without reason at times I might add." I said, I raised an eyebrow as she began laughing hysterically.
"The nerve of this boy," she thought, "no, not a boy. He is a Chosen now, and due some respect. Little as it might be."
"Well, well." she said outloud. "Chosen for a few weeks and already making demands."
"It's not a demand my sister..." I began.
"DO NOT CALL ME YOUR SISTER AGAIN!" she screamed, her face was now flushed, the anger building up inside her was boiling over.
"Well, well. I hope I didn't offend you sis... my dear spider, but back on the subject. The pentance you will pay will be less painfull than the pain you caused me."
"Bah, let's hear this so called pentance you are asking for." she said irritably.
"Good to see you are understanding, now remember you must not embrace your half of the Source, less ofcourse you wish to be turned to ash. Now what I wish to use is on the table over there, go retrieve it would you?" I smiled at the thought of pure horror comming up... Who ever said there was no joy in others pain?
Moghedien gingerly got to her feet and slowly walked over to the table where a bag was sitting on the table top. "What's in it?" she asked.
"Open it and find out," I replied, "It's nothing that can kill you..."
Moghedien reached into the bag slowly then pulled out what looked to be a bunch of gold chains with round ends. It took her a whole half second for the color to drain from her face and another second for the collar to hit the table top.
"You must be joking..." she said at a barely audiable level. The fear in her face brought pure joy and laughter out of me. "I will _NOT_ wear that!" pointing at the a'dam on the table. "and besides you cannot use that..."
"That I do know SISTER." I said with amusement, "I know more also. You have a choice, wear it, or die."
"I will do neither." she said... The only thing that saved my life was the fact that I never let go of saidin. The room was turned ablaze as twenty or so traps were sprung at the same instant. Balls of fire consumed all the furniture in the room, and bounced harmlessly off the shield protecting Moghedien and myself.
Then a silver slash split the table in two as Moghedien attempted to open a gateway to freedom. Weaving as fast as I could, I threw weaves of fire and earth at the gateway causing it to collapse. Moghedien flew through the air, and landed belly down onto what used to be the table.
"No retreating for you today my dear Moghedien." I said.
Moghedien gripped her hand tight, most likely channeling through an angreal this put her at almost even strength with me. Though I had a few suprises yet for her. Using my own angreal recovered from Ravin's chambers, I channeled fire and spirit, along with lashes of air. Moghedien tired from the attempted gateway blocked one after another, until the power of saidar fled from her.
I hoisted her up with flows of air and brought the collar over and placed it into her hand. Several tries later she finally quit dropping it. "There, there now." I said, "That's a good little sister. Now place it onto your neck, and pentance will be served." I smiled delightfully for now she would feel what she was so good at handing out to others, pure pain.
"It won't work, and I won't wear it." she said, tears streaming down from her eyes. Fire erupted in her brain as I placed the weaves along it. Twenty minutes passed before she opened the collar, fourty-five long minutes of begging and pleading before she placed it on her slim neck. "Now this is your pentance." with that, I snatched up the other end of the a'dam and already she began to wiggle. As I snapped the bracelett on, she began to cry and scream, flailing about wildly. But never a blow landed on me, she knew that greater pain would come if I was injured. The more she screamed the more I laughed, this was truely too good to be true...
Abruptly she stopped, then disappeared.
With that the laughin stopped, and I gasped as the room began to spin. One minute it was my room, the next somewhere dark. Then next it was my room, but in the waking world. I sat up in bed and sitting on the sheets was Moghedien. Throwing off the covers, I launched myself to the ground. On my knees I asked, "How may I serve you Great Mistress?"
"Well now, so this is what you think of your Great Mistress in your dreams?" she said with a ruefull smile. "I did like the part with the a'dam it truely would have been quite painful." She gave a little shiver.
"I'm sorry Great Mistress," I said, unshed tears filling my eyes, "it was only a dream, I wouldn't dare hurt my Great Mistress!" Knowing that my life could flash before my very eyes at any second, I let the tears fall.
"There, there." she said with a solemn voice. "It is true that it was only a dream, but dreams tell a true story. So I must prevent the hate from your heart to enter your mind."
I looked at her with a great curriousity, "What could she mean to do to me?" I thought to myself, all I felt was a tingling sensation from her. Thinking I was about to die, I grabbed her skirts and begged forgiveness. Suddenly my awareness of the sounds, smells and other senses were acting as if I was holding saidin. With that all she said was, "I've made you my Warder. To prevent you from harming me, you are quite strong, and this is my gift to you." With that the tears went away, because I knew that today I wasn't going to die.
